The goal is to find the ant colony. Often this can be done by watching the trailing ants and following them back to the colony. This may be under stones, wood, landscaping logs, water hose containers, etc. Many ants prefer to nest under large items where it's protected and cool. Some ants may build mounds and these ants can often be easier to find. Once you find the mound, you’ve won.

Once you have found the ants, use Scatter to treat the colony thoroughly and this will address the root of the problem. Easy as that! For good measures, it will also be wise to treat the trail of ants and all areas they have been seen to avoid a rebound or stragglers.

Treat entry points like doors and windows with scatter. If you are finding some foragers, treat along baseboards or other junctions where the ants may be traveling. Avoid treating food prep surfaces with scatter.
